Having your own blog on Blogger.com is one thing. You can attract hordes of visitors to your blog quite easily just using Blogger's popularity.
Unfortunately you will not be taken as an authority on your subject if you just stick to Blogger. In fact Blogger.com should be just one of the many tools in your arsenal to attract visitors to your web pages.
What you really need to establish a web presence, as well as becoming an authority on your subject, is a web site.
Now I know what many of you may be thinking at this moment - "I don't know the first thing about web sites and how to design them". Well, don't worry, I'm going to show you a really simple way to get started.
Your first step is to choose a domain name - that's the name that appears after the 'www' in the address bar of your browser. It is also the name that people will search for when they are looking for your website.
We call this locator a 'URL' and the neat thing is that you can use your URL in messages, in articles, in books in fact anywhere that you want people to find you.
So you can understand that your domain name, and corresponding URL, are very important to how easy it becomes for internet surfers to find your site.
That is why internet marketers go to such great lengths to find a suitable domain name. You will need to choose a domain name that describes what you are writing about. So, for example, I write about making money, so my domain name describes that, hence 'wealth-providers'.
Some people say that the hyphen doesn't help Google and other search engines to promote a domain name as successfully as if it was one word - 'wealthproviders'. I don't necessarily agree. My adage is that if you cannot find the domain you want without a hyphen then use a hyphen to achieve it.
But that is by the by. What I want you to do know is to think hard about the keywords you wish to use to describe the subject of your blog (or future website). Write as many words down as you can that fit the subject of your pages.
Then follow this link to a site which will help you find your perfect domain name:
www.domainsbot.com
But DO NOT buy your domain name there. Next I'll show you how to get your domain name free!
Type one or two main keywords into the Search box and hit Search.

Domainsbot will initially show you whether your keywords will provide an available domain name. What we are looking for is a domain name with .com on the end. You can use other domain names, like .info, but as most people automatically search for .com domain names it is sensible to use .com wherever possible.
Don't be dispirited if your chosen domain name is not available. Most of the common domain names have already been registered, even though they may not be in use.
When DomainsBot has completed its Search you'll see a list of results and the suggestions it has made. Now you can go on to refine the results.
First of all look at the right side of the page. You'll see a Synonyms box that contains words similar to your keywords. Tick the words that DON'T suit and delete them.
Next untick everything in the VIEW ONLY: box below except for:
.com
Available
Hyphens
and hit Update Results.

You will now have a list, many pages long, from which to choose available domain names.
Pick those that you think fit your website subject and jot them down. I suggest making a list of around ten.
Then sleep on it and review the list in the morning. It is best not to make a snap judgement - your decision will become clearer when you have whittled down the choices.
In your next lesson I'll show you how to get your chosen domain name FREE and what you are going to do with it.
To your good fortune!
